A strong hive will build up to 40,000-60,000 bees in the summer.
A worker honey bee will die if she stings. The queen has a barbless stinger and can sting multiple times. The male bees are called Drones and do not have stingers.
One single honey bee may collect 1/12 of a teaspoon of honey in her lifetime.
Bees come out of the hive when it reaches 50 degrees outside. They cluster for warmth in the colder months and remain active all winter.
According to the Canadian Honey Council, 1lb of honey is produced by the bees visiting around 2,000,000 flowers and flying upwards of 50,000 miles .
